Amazon’s The Wheel of Time Will Debut In 2021

Amazon’s continuous slow, tantalizing drip of The Wheel of Time news continues with a release date! Well, not an exact date. More like a release promise: The streaming platform will premiere the show this year.

The network announced the news with a short video that also revealed a new logo:

For months, we’ve been getting tiny teasers of the show and its world: a glimpse of Daniel Henney as al’Lan Mandragoran; five seconds of Rosamund Pike as Moiraine; Mat’s dagger, the Heron Blade, a snippet of the score, and a peek at the set. Last month, showrunner Rafe Judkins did an Instagram Q&A to celebrate the show’s official renewal for season two—which came along with the news that production had wrapped on the first season.

It’s been a long road to the screen for The Wheel of Time; the adaptation of Robert Jordan’s books was first announced in 2017, and Amazon gave it a series order in 2018. Like everything else last year, production was halted by the pandemic.

The show will have an eight episode first season, and in that Instagram Q&A, Judkins teased that a trailer should be coming soon. Hopefully when that happens, it’ll have an exact premiere date!
